About UK elections

UK Election 2010

The major candidates are David Cameron of Conservative Party, Gordon Brown of current Labour party and Nick Clegg for Liberal Democrats.

Labour party's issues are: Everyone gets childcare, schools, the NHS and policing, House of Lord to be electable.
Conservative's issues are: Reducing Inheritance tax, Non-profit organisations can set up independent school, cut off the budget deficit, Scrap identity card, Increasing the benefit of marital status
Liberal Democrat's issues are: Protecting Illegal Immigration, Written Constitution, Single-transferable Vote, Premium given for school with poor people, To change the National Curriculum to Minimal Curriculum Entitlement.

This parliamentary election in UK is held for the seat of the Parliament where people choose the MP for their county. Then the party with the most seat win the election and its leader become prime minister
This is different from US because US have separate election for president and the member of the Congress while UK election decides both the seats in parliament and Prime Minister at the same time. Also election in UK can adjust the date for election while US have fixed date for the elections.

I think Nick Clegg is going to be the best prime minister because of three reasons. Firstly LIberal Democrat says that the illegal Immigrant can have a chance to be legal immigrant. I really like this policy because it protect their own human right, which are currently abuse in cause of being illegal immigrant. Secondly I like about the idea of 'written constitution,' as it would narrow the too broad interpretation of UK judiciary due to lack of superior evidence over common laws.
Finally the third reason why I like Lib Dem is that it introduces the Minimal Curriculum Entitlement rather than current National Curriculum System. The entitlement will allow more flexible teaching, which I feel it is neccessary in UK education. Currently UK education is solidified to keep up with the national curriculum, allowing fixed response from each student and thus the less creativity is encouraged in UK.

If I were creating my own government...

I would use parliamentory government, where executive is the leader of the dominant party in legislature. It is because the executive is almost a part of the legislature so that executives and so legislature will get along well with executives. In other words, the legislature will provide the law that will support the executive's policies with majority, unlike limited presidential executive where the other parties Congress always checks and delays the president's policies.

Here we can know that the government is pressurized by other interest groups, such as businessmen, but no mention of other political opposition in preventing the current executive, Gordon brown's cabinet. It leads to the suggestion that the executive is pretty in superior position with the parliament and so powerful enough to pass the law in agreement with the parliament.

Here the British prime minister Gordon brown announces the harsh immigration policies. From this article, there are also concerns from other ethnic groups but there is no mentions of parliament not supporting his policies, meaning that the immigration policies will be activated no matter what other interest group. Hence it shows how easy the parliamentory executive to execute the policies with approval of the parliament, because the executive is the representative of the dominant party in the parliament.

Railway in Florida?

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/23/us/23train.html?ref=us
This article tells that the Obama administration had gave funds for building high-speed railway between Tampa and Orlando, two of the major cities in Florida. The writer arises the suspicion that the Obama has chosen to invest just to show their contribution in minimum amount of money, since it required not much money as much as other region of the USA.

I would agree with this article's attitude towards the Obama's so-called 'charity' towards his state Florida. In relation to Obama's multi racial background, this may show his inclination towards the cosmopolitan area such as California and Florida rather than the white dominant northeast region. I mean he could have supported the rail system in the more of northern region where the traffic congestion is more frequent than the route between Tampa and Orlando.

American POLICY #1! : Health reform

Health Reform policy, led by President Obama himself, is not only national issue but also the international concern about the USA. The policy will provide the safety net for the uninsured people; the States will finally declaim the only federal republic nation without any health welfare available for the poor.
This policy sounds good to me. However the battle for passing the Health bill has been issued 3month before and it is still long way from being the Law. Why is that?

This is because the Americans are concerned that 'would the government have enough budget to make this happen?' The policy sounds too good that it would cost so much of government budget. Everyone in the State knows that their country is in great debt and the government uses their taxes just to pay off the interest of the debt. So the US citizen would be thinking that if the Health Bill is passed, their tax will rise unreasonably higher than what they are getting out of it from.
